Bargaining or regateo is considered something of an art in Mexico.
Bear in mind that when you first ask how much an item costs, you will be given a high price.
You must respond with a counter offer. Here body language is all-important
But visitors should know when and where to haggle.
Shops in malls and on main streets almost always have fixed prices and are not open to bargaining.
It is even impolite to ask the sales attendant for lower prices. A good place to bargain is in the street stalls.
