"El
centro" (the main commercial area of Cancún
City) has colorful shops, restaurants and smaller hotels,
catering more to European and national tourism. In the heart
of the city the residential groupings, called supermanzanas
(SM), are defined by major avenues that formed an inner-connecting
network of streets that would allow residents to move easily
from one part to another, each one has a most of the streets
are one-way called retornos. Laid out as an “U”;,
they start and end on the same street, one of several avenues
that limit or define the SM. To travel from one end of the
supermanzana to the other, you take these encircling avenues,
or you take the footpaths.
